The Los Angeles Kings have announced that they’ve hired NHL legend Pierre Turgeon as an assistant coach. According to Kings president Luc Robitaille, Turgeon will serve as an “offensive coordinator” on head coach John Stevens’ staff for the 2017-18 season.

Hockey fans may remember Turgeon as one of the most electrifying players of the late 80’s and 1990’s. The former 1st overall pick of the 1987 NHL Entry Draft had a storied career and produced 515 goals and 1327 points in 1294 games. His career high 58 goals and 132 points in the 1992-93 season proves that the offensive wizard has the knowledge and experience needed to turn around a Kings offense that has been non-existent the past few seasons.

With Turgeon’s hiring, GM Rob Blake’s transformation of the Kings’ coaching staff is now complete. Gone are Darryl Sutter and Davis Payne. In are Stevens, who was promoted to the head job after years as an assistant under Sutter, Dave Lowry, Don Nachbaur and Turgeon. Bill Ranford also remains with the team as its goaltending coach.
