Knights core “unnerved” with as many as 6 players rumored in trades.

The Las Vegas Golden Knights are rumored to be the team of choice for Alex Pietrangelo and while that may be good news for fans of the team, it sounds like the players on the the Golden Knights roster are not taking things all that well.

A report from National Hockey League insider Frank Seravalli has revealed that the move, or potential move, has "unnerved" the members of the core group in the Golden Knights locker room due to the fact that many of them could in theory be shipped out to make room for Pietrangelo. On Sunday we heard talk that the deal between the former Blues captain and the Golden Knights was getting close, and at that time there were multiple reports suggesting that the Golden Knights had a trade in place to send Nate Schmidt to the Florida Panthers in order to clear space for that signing, but that hasn't happened. To hear Seravalli tell it, the Golden Knights players are now sweating given that they are hearing their own names bandied about in trade rumors now as well.

From Seravalli:

Fair to say the core of Vegas is unnerved as the Pietrangelo Watch hits Day 4. They saw Paul Stastny shipped out. They've heard all of their names in play - Fleury, Schmidt, Smith, Pacioretty, Martinez and Marchessault - as they now wait for the other shoe to drop

The players listed here are of course Marc Andre Fleury, the aforementioned Nate Schmidt, Reilly Smith, Max PaciorettyAlec Martinez and of course Jonathan Marchessault. I must admit it comes as a big surprise to see some of these names being bandied about by Seravalli, but after the Schmidt trade seemingly feel apart last night the Golden Knights are no doubt exploring all of their options in order to make room for this Pietrangelo signing.

The most obvious most for the organization to make here is to clear Marc Andre Fleury's cap hit of $7 million off their books, but by all accounts the organization has tried, and failed, to do so since the start of the offseason. Last we heard the Golden Knights had offered both a 1st and 2nd round pick to teams in order to take on just half of Fleury's salary, with no success to report.
