Kris Russell reportedly signs contract extension with the Oilers

According to a report from former Sportsnet NHL insider John Shannon, the Edmonton Oilers have re-signed defenseman Kris Russell to a one year contract extension.

As Shannon points out, Russell is coming off a deal that pays him $4 million against the salary cap annually, but it's not yet known what Russell's new deal will pay him next season. Stay tuned for that info.

In any case, the 33 year old blueliner put up nine assists in 55 games with the Oilers this season and has been a staple of their defence corps for the past four seasons. He has 46 goals and 236 points in 846 career NHL games.
