Torey Krug is another coveted free agent player on the unrestricted free agent market at the moment and he has quite the strategy in mind in order to get the best deal possible.

The Boston Bruins have reportedly held firm throughout the night with their last offer to Krug’s camp — six years and $6.5 million annually - but it sounds like the defenseman is awaiting on another coveted UFA blue liner’s decision before he makes his own.

Joe Haggerty of NBC Sports reports that Krug is waiting to see what happens with Alex Pietrangelo before he makes his decision on where he will play next season. It sounds like nothing is imminent until Pietrangelo lands somewhere.

The Bruins have worked hard at making the numbers work in order to retain Krug, who they simply cannot replace in their lineup. If Krug is not circling back to the Bruins and if the team plans on being a top Stanley Cup contender next season, general manager Don Sweeney will have to fill Krug’s shoes by making an acquisition in free agency or the trade market.

Krug signed as a free agent and played first NHL game back in 2012. He’s racked up 337 points in 523 games, adding another 46 points in 62 career playoff contests. After this postseason run, he might continue to rack up points somewhere other than Boston.

The Detroit Red Wings have been mentioned more than once as a possible landing spot for Krug. The Wings are believed to be the front runner in landing Krug, who grew up in Royal Oak, Michigan and played under-18 hockey with Compuware and college hockey at Michigan State University To help him get acquainted to a (possible) new team, it was been noted that he played in the USHL under the Red Wings’ current coach, Jeff Blashill.

We are sure there are other offers, but it sounds like Krug also wants to see the ones made to Pietrangelo before he makes his final decision.
