"Thank you for all the well wishes, prayers and support! It has meant more than you will ever know!"

Buffalo Sabres forward Kyle Okposo scared pretty much everybody in the National Hockey League when he was rushed in a neuro intensive care unit with an undisclosed medical condition, back in April. There were concerns about his future, both on and off the ice: at some point, many people thought he would not be able to play again.

The 29-year-old forward opened up about this tough situation yesterday. He explained he is now fully healthy, after a devastating concussion. Here is what he said, as reported by the Associated Press:

“I’ve worked with a lot of different people — concussion experts and people who have dealt with concussions themselves — and I feel confident in the fact that I can play hockey again. In fact, I know I can play again. I know I can play and not worry about hitting my head, which is a major hurdle for someone who’s dealt with this. If I didn’t feel 100 percent right now, that probably wouldn’t be the case.”

He also said that he had sleeping trouble, lost his appetite and a significant amount of weight.

Okposo is a former 7th overall pick in the 2006 NHL draft. He played 594 games with the New York Islanders and the Sabres, in which he recorded 158 goals and 256 assists for 414 points, as well as 334 penalty minutes. He amassed 45 points in 65 games last season.
