The Winnipeg Jets appear to have secured another one of their core players on a new deal, but this time it appears as though both sides got the long term deal they were looking for.

According to a report from Sportsnet National Hockey League insider Elliotte Friemdan it appears as though the Winnipeg Jets and forward Kyle Connor have come to terms on a new deal. Although the details are still not official at this time, according to Friedman the contract is expected to be a 7 year deal that will pay Connor upwards of $7 million per season in terms of average annual value. Now these numbers again are still not official, however multiple sources from around the league have now echoed the original report from Friedman, with most placing the average annual value of this deal somewhere between $7 million and $7.25 million per season.

Those are the kind of numbers that could push Connor's new deal over the $50 million dollar mark, a pretty good chunk of change to take home as a 22 year old kid from Michigan. Of course that being said, you would be hard pressed to argue that Connor has not earned the money that he received today. The young winger has been dynamite for the Jets over each of the past two seasons, breaking the 30 goal mark both times and eclipsing the 50 point plateau both times as well. In his most recent season Connor appeared in all 82 games for the Jets and went on to record a whopping 34 goals and 32 assists for a total of 66 points on the season. That is obviously big time production and you can see why the Jets were eager to get this player signed to a long term contract.

This is a stark contrast to what we saw earlier this week when it came to the Winnipeg Jets and another restricted free agent forward, Patrik Laine. The Jets appeared to show far less faith in Laine, opting only for a 2 year deal instead, something that would seemingly align with the way both players have been perceived by the fan base over the past few years.

Update: TSN's Darren Dreger with the official numbers. $50 million over 7 years.
