You would think after the long, drawn out and public contract negotiations between the Winnipeg Jets and sniper Patrik Laine that the 21 year old Laine might eat a little humble pie in front of Winnipeg reporters yesterday afternoon. Then again… this is Patrik Laine we’re talking about.

The kid has never lacked in confidence and makes bold statements without a second thought. In other words, he was in his element yesterday afternoon.

In his first media appearance since re-upping with the Jets last week, Laine met with reporters and had a very simple message for his critics, “I’m going to score a lot of goals, that’s for sure.”

Check out Laine’s comments to the media below, provided by the Winnipeg Free Press:

“I know that I will be good for the next two years. I’m going to score a lot of goals, that’s for sure.”
“I’ve always trusted myself and this is no exception. I’m going to be betting on myself in these two years.”
“Everybody knows that it was a tough year for me and for the team. It was not the way that we wanted to end the season. For me, the last two months or month-and-a-half, I was playing good hockey. That’s something I’ve got to keep doing from Thursday and on. That’s something that I’ve been focusing on this summer. I need (to show) consistency. I’ve focused more on my five-on-five play and that’s something I’ve got to focus on when the season starts on Thursday.”

One thing’s for sure, the kid does NOT lack in confidence! Let’s drop the puck and get this kid to 50 goals already!
