Laine’s and Trouba’s season ending comments have Jets fan worried
Zuma Press

Earlier today the Winnipeg Jets cleaned out their lockers and met with the local media for the final time this season. The Jets, of course, fell to the St. Louis Blues in their first round playoff series, despite entering the playoffs as Stanley Cup favorites. In the end though… they came up short.

The Jets head into the 2019 offseason now with a TON on question marks. General manager Kevin Cheveldayoff has his work cut out for him this summer as he’ll need to negotiate pricey extensions for Patrik Laine, Kyle Connor and Jacob Trouba. In the cases of both Laine and Trouba… well buckle up, Chevy. Things could get bumpy.

Check out these comments from Trouba when asked if he’s considering taking a “hometown discount”:

In other words, “Pay me!”

As for Laine, it’s clear he’s looking for a big deal, as well:

With captain Blake Wheeler’s $8.25 million deal kicking in next season, Cheveldayoff is going to have some interesting math to do this offseason. The Jets ended the season with roughly $4 million cap space and they’ll likely let pricey free agents like Kevin Hayes and Tyler Myers walk in free agency, but Cheveldayoff will need to shed even more salary if he’s going to get both Laine and Trouba under contract at market value. Stay tuned, Jets fans.
