Lamoriello pulling the plug on a trade now that chatter has picked up?!

There is one GM in the National Hockey League that has always been quite secretive about his team’s plans and potential moves ahead of the trade deadline, and that’s of course Lou Lamoriello. Now at the reigns of the New York Islanders, it seems like the general manager is carefully looking around for pieces to add to his roster as his club stands tall in the Metropolitan division with head coach Barry Trotz leading them to a playoff berth.

Earlier this week, the Athletic’s Arthur Staple revealed that the Islanders were looking into adding giant forward Brian Boyle from the New Jersey Devils, however, he might be willing to pull the plug on the trade just because chatter is out there.

Here is what Elliotte Friedman revealed in the latest 31 Thoughts on Sportsnet, and it makes you wonder what other trades fell through because Lamoriello didn’t like the fact that insiders were talking about it to the public…

“New Jersey’s got a few interesting pieces. Brian Boyle stands out, with the Athletic’s Arthur Staple indicating the Islanders have interest. (Of course, now that this is out there, Lou Lamoriello will refuse to do it. True story: When the  Cory Schneider – Bo Horvat  trade went down, he told Vancouver that if he heard someone break it in the seconds before Commissioner Gary Bettman announced it at the draft podium, he’d cancel the deal.)”

It has to be seen if Lamoriello will dare to pull the plug on a potential Boyle trade. The Montreal Canadiens are said to be interested in inquiring about the veteran forward. The chatter will certainly grow louder as the trade deadline approaches…

We don’t know what Lamoriello will decide to do if it does…
