Latest development proves Marleau is preparing for trade out of Toronto

Patrick Marleau has made it clear: he wants to leave Toronto and head back home to California.

On Thursday morning, the veteran forward made it official when he put his Toronto home for sale, as per the Toronto Star

According to the Re/Max Premier Inc listing, the asking price is $11.888 million for the home “nestled on an affluent and prestigious Toronto neighborhood ... set upon lush topography.”

Marleau’s “palatial” Toronto home is in the Lawrence-Bayview area, sitting on about an acre of land, backing onto a ravine, with five bedrooms, seven bathrooms, an in-ground pool, a game room and a “spectacular chef’s dream kitchen.”

It sure sounds like the Maple Leafs and Marleau are set to part ways. Last week, it was heard that a trade almost took place between the Leafs and the Los Angeles Kings in which Marleau was sent to be sent to L.A. and play for head coach Todd McLellan

The move made sense seeing that McLellan was Marleau’s bench boss for many years with the San Jose Sharks and the destination was simply perfect to get Marleau to waive his no-move clause to get close to his family.

Elliotte Friedman reported that the deal ended up falling through because the Kings wanted the Leafs to take a contract back for taking Marleau off their hands. Friedman speculated Jeff Carter was the player the Kings wanted to send the other way.

That was clearly a deal breaker for Toronto, who is now looking at another option. As they keep focusing on Marleau’s wishes to be closer to his family, Friedman believes the Anaheim Ducks could be a team that answers the veteran player’s wishes and see him waive his NM clause. The insider explained that a few years back when the Sharks were exploring trading him, Marleau wanted to be sent to Anaheim.

With his latest development with the house for sale, it sounds like Marleau is getting ready for a trade and has already one foot out the door.
