The Chicago Blackhawks placed defenseman Michal Rozsival on long-term injured reserve, the team announced on Monday.

Rozsival hoped to return for a 17th season in the National Hockey League, but things did not start off well when he did not pass his physical at the start of training camp.

It has been revealed that the 39-year-old is still dealing with post-concussion symptoms, after he was sucker-punched by Anaheim Ducks' Nick Ritchie this past spring. The blue liner needed surgery to repair injuries to his face.

Being placed on LTIR, many experts and fans expect Rozsival to put an end to his professional hockey career and announce his retirement.

To be continued...

In 963 NHL career games, Rozsival has been a part of two Stanley Cup winning teams with the Blackhawks and recorded 309 points.
