This is taking far too long.

There hasn't been much good news leaking out regarding the ongoing negotiations between the Detroit Red Wings and restricted free agent Andreas Athanasiou.

Today was unfortunately no different as a brief update from TSN insider Bob McKenzie appears to have indicated that both sides have firmly held their ground, with neither side flinching.

"No progress on either front right now," said McKenzie.

General manager Ken Holland put an offer on the table earlier this summer, and it seems like Athanasiou's camp has attempt to use the Kontinental Hockey League and more lucrative offers from that league as leverage to pressure Holland to cough up for money.

While certainly fans in Detroit don't want to see Holland overspend on another contract, the risk of losing Athanasiou to the KHL is likely growing every day the two sides fail to reach a deal.
