Earlier this week rumors of an announcement from National Hockey League veteran Jaromir Jagr and the Calgary Flames began to leak and while the initial speculation was that Jagr would announce his retirement from the NHL, both the Flames and Jagr suggested that was not the case.

Now however a new report from Sportsnet insider Elliotte Friedman has revealed that Jagr may in fact have reached the end of his legendary career in the NHL. From Friedman:

These things take a little bit of time (remember Vadim Shipachyov) so it might take a few days to get clarity, but Jaromir Jagr’s NHL time is coming to an end.

According to Friedman Jagr's agent, Petr Svoboda, has been granted permission to speak to other teams in the league but there has not been much interest, if there has been any at all, and that unfortunately comes as little surprise.

Not only did Jagr not look very good during his limited time in the Flames line up, but he is dealing with a serious knee injury that at the age of 45 is a major concern for teams that would have otherwise perhaps considering taking a chance on him.

While Jagr has not by any means officially announced his retirement, the sad reality is that we may have already seen the last of Jagr playing in a National Hockey League uniform.
