The Toronto Maple Leafs have just announced yet another major injury in a long run of injuries for the organization.

According to a breaking news report from the Toronto Maple Leafs department of public relations, veteran defenseman Jake Muzzin has been sidelined and will not play tonight against the New York Rangers. Unfortunately for fans in Toronto though that is the good part of the announcement as the Leafs have also revealed that Muzzin is out tonight due to the fact that he has suffered a broken foot and is now being listed as "week to week" by the Leafs organization. This likely means that Muzzin is going to be out for an extended period of time and considering the injuries that have piled up for the Leafs this season that is some truly catastrophic news.

The announcement comes off the heels of the news today that Ilya Mikheyev will likely miss the remainder of the season as a result of the laceration he suffered from the skate of New Jersey Devil Jesper Bratt. The Leafs also announced earlier today that they would be calling up both forward Kenny Agostino as well as defenseman Timothy Liljegren and I suspect that the call up for Liljegren was a direct result of this injury to Muzzin.

Muzzin had thus far appeared in 38 games for the Maple Leafs during the 2019 - 2020 National Hockey League regular season and over that stretch he has 3 goals and 10 assists for 13 points. Muzzin has also picked up 34 penalty minutes this season and boasts a plus minus rating of +8 on the season.
