Leafs cut 19-year-old rookie, ship him back to Sweden

Darren Dreger of TSN reported this morning that the Toronto Maple Leafs have made a decision regarding one of their more coveted prospects.

The Swedish forward, drafted 57th overall in 2016, got his first taste of North American hockey action last spring when he was called into Canada to help the Toronto Marlies in their AHL playoff run. He managed an impressive 3 goals and 1 assist in 6 playoff games.

Carl Grundstrom's chances weren't too high to make the team this year, with the spots limited and players such as Miro Aaltonen and Dominic Moore competing for the fourth line position.

However, the kid's chances of cracking this squad are very good in the near future. He plays a similar game to Leo Komarov - he can score, and he can punish.

Mike Babcock had this to say about the young prospect in interview with The Star - “We thought he was good. What I see is a big, strong guy who’s very competitive and shoots the puck on the net every time he touches it.”

Those are some high praises from one of the most respected coaches in the NHL.
