This just in, the Toronto Maple Leafs have demoted forward Adam Brooks, and defencemen Timothy Liljegren  and Martin Marincin to the AHL’s Toronto Marlies.

Check it out:

In Brooks’ case, it seems likely that injured forward Trevor Moore is nearing a return, necessitating a move up front. As for Liljegren and Marincin though, it’s unclear what the plan is moving forward.

Neither player managed to get any playing time during their most recent call-ups and, in fact, Liljegren has yet to play an NHL game. Marincin last played for the Leafs in early November. The 20 year old Liljegren factors into the Leafs’ future in a big way, however. The former 1st round pick (17th overall in 2017) has had a strong season with the Marlies this year, potting 13 points in 24 games. He looks bigger, stronger and more confident this season and many feel he’s ready to make the jump to the NHL any day now.

With the Leafs icing a fairly healthy blue line consisting of Morgan Rielly, Tyson Barrie, Jake Muzzin, Justin Holl, Travis Dermott and Cody Ceci though, it’s simply tough to find enough space on the roster for Liljegren. Don’t be surprised if he’s the team’s go-to call up though the next time they need some help on the back end.
