The Toronto Maple Leafs have made some adjustments to their line up, although the changes come not from the whims of Maple Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe but rather are born out of necessity due to the injuries the Leafs have announced over the course of the day.

First according to a report from Maple Leafs insider Jonas Siegel of The Athletic, the Maple Leafs will be injecting both forward Adam Brooks and defenseman Matt Marincin into the line up this evening. In the case of Adam Brooks he will make his debut in the National Hockey League this evening and I think it is safe to say that the move comes as a direct result of the very serious injury sustained by Maple Leafs' forward Ilya Mikheyev. The Leafs announced earlier today that Mikheyev could potentially miss the remainder of the 2019 - 2020 NHL regular season as the result of a cut he suffered when the Leafs faced off against the New Jersey Devils.

Mikheyev was cut when the Devils' Jesper Bratt fell awkwardly to the ice, sending his feet into the air and resulting in his skate blade slicing across the arm of Mikheyev. The cut resulted in severed tendons and a severed artery, injuries so severe that they have now prompted the Leafs to immediately take action to prevent such an injury again. According to a report from Siegel the Leafs have already outfitted their players with kevlar sleeves in the hopes of either preventing or mitigating the damage from a skate blade in the future.

The second move made by the Leafs this evening will be a much less popular one with Matt Marincin stepping in for the injured Jake Muzzin. The Leafs revealed that Muzzin would be out long term earlier today as the result of a broken foot, but many fans were hoping to see another player take his place. The Leafs made a pair of call ups earlier today, call ups that included defenseman Timothy Liljegren, and it seems fair to suggest that many were hoping to see Liljegren make his debut. Unfortunately with the Toronto Marlies coming off a pair of back to back games it seems fair to suggest that the Leafs felt it wise to keep Liljegren on the sidelines for tonight's contest.
