Leafs’ Kadri praises Ovechkin ahead of playoff rematch

The Toronto Maple Leafs’ long awaited return to the Stanley Cup Playoffs this past spring was a magical event for many long suffering Leafs fans. The only problem? As the 8th seed, they were pitted against the President’s Trophy winning Washington Capitals in the first round.

While the Leafs acquitted themselves well in the six round series, the Caps eventually prevailed as many expected they would. As a result, the powerhouse Capitals made quite the impression on the upstart Leafs. Count Leafs’ center Nazem Kadri among those who were impressed by the Capitals’ offense. And, as evidenced by his comments to Sportsnet’s Chris Johnston this morning, he’s particularly a fan of superstar Alex Ovechkin.

High praise for the one they call “OV”. Ironically enough, Ovechkin looks poised to have an outstanding season in 2017-18. The 30-year-old Russian sniper has already potted a league-leading nine goals in just six games. If the Leafs hope to stand a chance tonight, Kadri will be tasked with shutting him down.
