The Toronto Maple Leafs have been handed a couple of tough blows in the last weeks, losing forwards Andreas Johansson, Tyler Moore, Ilya Mikheyev and defenseman Jake Muzzin to injuries in December.

Now fans and pundits are starting to wonder if another star player will be added to the list of players currently in the infirmary as Mitch Marner was the victim of a hard hit by Winnipeg Jets’ Patrik Laine on Thursday night.

Towards the end of the contest, as the Leafs were in the lead, Laine was working hard to get his team back on the board. He inadvertently caught Marner high in the head with his elbow as he was working the puck towards him.

The good news is that Marner spoke with media members after the Leafs’ 6-3 win over the Jets and appeared fine. He only sported a cut on the bridge of his nose, which could have taken place as Laine drove his elbow to his visor.

The Leafs surely cannot handled another blow; however, they managed to get a statement win, despite leaving veteran Jason Spezza out of the lineup and trusting Mason Marchment in his NHL debut.
