Leafs make surprising call up which could hint at a pending trade

There is no secret that the Toronto Maple Leafs are looking at ways to bolster their back end as Morgan Rielly remains out on the injured reserved, however, the team recalled defenseman Kevin Gravel from the AHL's Marlies on Friday morning, which got a lot of fans wondering… 

And then the rumour mill kicked into motion. 

As the Leafs recalled Gravel, who hasn’t played in the NHL since October, many fans wonder if he could be put up for display for a potential trade or if Toronto was actually planning a move involving another blue liner, which would push the team to get Gravel back in the fold. 

These are all speculation: it remains to be seen what could take place in the coming weeks. The Leafs are said to be looking to add on the right side of their back end and so a trade out on the blue line would be a new approach. 

However, if the Leafs need to make a bigger move and involve some smaller pieces in a package deal, it could make sense to test Gravel first to see the interest out there.
