Leafs now know the price to acquire Dumba!

The Toronto Maple Leafs are still believed to be in the mix for a top blue liner ahead of the trade deadline and several pundits have linked them to the Minnesota Wild.

Wild general manager Bill Guerin made a splash earlier this week, moving Jason Zucker to the Pittsburgh Penguins in return for Alex Galchenyuk, prospect Calen Addison and a conditional 2020 first-round draft pick. And Darren Dreger believes he is not done.

“Speaking of trade talk, Minnesota Wild general manager Bill Guerin is in the middle of all of it. Big splash this week with the Pittsburgh Penguins. He’s still willing to listen on veteran defenseman Matt Dumba and also Jonas Brodin.”

That’s when the talk got interesting on Insider Trading on TSN when Dreger brought up what the asking price could be for Dumba, meaning that’s what the Leafs might have to give up.

“Now the expected return for either one of those defenseman is a top line centre. And if the best offer is a No. 2 centre, then it has to be with something else.”

The Leafs have been said to be studying the possibility of moving Kasperi Kapanen, Andreas Johnsson or Alex Kerfoot, however all three are wingers. The Leafs are not willing to use any of their top players in a trade and might have to look elsewhere for help on the back end…
