Yeah, maybe he should have kept his mouth shut...

For a rare time in NHL history, the Montreal Canadiens were cheering on the Toronto Maple Leafs last night as they could have helped the Habs in their playoff quest if they managed to get a win over the Carolina Hurricanes.

That did not happen. The Hurricanes came out with desperation and exited 4-1 winners. While the Leafs have clinched a spot and already know they will once again face the Boston Bruins in the first round of the postseason in a few weeks, the playoff picture remains incomplete in the East with the tight race between the Canadiens, Hurricanes and Columbus Blue Jackets.

After the loss at the hands of the Canes, it seemed like forward William Nylander was more focused on the postseason than the last stretch of the regular calendar. The Leafs have two games left on the schedule, and while fans are hoping there will be a different outcome this time around in the first round series, they would have preferred to see confident Maple Leafs winning over the Hurricanes.

Nylander commented on the series to come and his statement seemed to have angered fans, who were quick to rip him on social media. After the loss, Nylander said:

"William Nylander says he's "hungry for revenge" against Boston in the playoffs."

Here is what some of the many fans had to tell him:

The list of replies ripping Nylander and his lack of focus on the last games of the season or his lack of productivity goes on. Fans want action over words.

While it is impossible for any team to win every single game en route for the postseason, we bet Maple Leafs fans needed a little reassurance to see how Toronto will be able to manage against the Bruins. Boston won 6-2 last night over the Blue Jackets, helping the Canadiens in their quest.

The Habs didn't get that help from the Leafs.

And clearly, the fans of the Maple Leafs didn't enjoy the post-game comments of Nylander. Let's see how the Leafs get ready for the start of the series against Boston and see if Nylander got it right.
