The National Hockey League's trade deadline is just one day away and it seems there are some teams around the National Hockey League clearing some roster space ahead of time as they potentially prepare for the moves that are to come.

On Sunday no less than 5 NHL teams placed players on waivers according to TSN NHL insider Pierre LeBrun, those teams being the Toronto Maple Leafs, Pittsburgh Penguins, Ottawa Senators, Los Angeles Kings and the New Jersey Devils. None of the players waived today are what you would consider world beaters and it seems fair to suggest that, given the deadline is tomorrow, most if not all of these players will clear the waiver process without getting picked up.

In the case of the Toronto Maple Leafs it will be 23 year old forward Dmytro Timashov who is waived. Timashov has 4 goals and 5 assists for 9 points in his 39 appearances for the Maple Leafs this season.

The Penguins have placed 29 year old forward Andrew Agozzino on waivers after just 16 games with the team this season. Agozzino has no goals and 2 assists for the Penguins over that stretch.

The Ottawa Senators also placed a player on waivers today, 28 year old defenseman Hubert Labrie, although in Labrie's case he did not so much as play in a single game for the Senators after being called up.

The Los Angeles Kings have placed center Tim Schaller on waivers today after he appeared in just 2 games for the Kings, picking up no points in the process. Schaller was a part of the trade that sent forward Tyler Toffoli to the Vancouver Canucks earlier in the season.

Last but not least the New Jersey Devils have waived 28 year old defenseman Julian Melchiori who also has not appeared in a single game this season. Like Labrie, Melchiori was called up by his team but never got the opportunity to actually skate in an NHL game for the Devils this season, probably not a good sign given just how poor the Devils have looked at times this season.

Definitely not the biggest moves we will hear about in the next 24 hours, but they could prove to be significant if only due to the roster space they create for the teams who waived players today.
