In case you missed it, the Toronto Maple Leafs got past the San Jose Sharks by a score of 5-3 last night, thank in large part to two goals from superstar centre Auston Matthews. The 21 year old sniper made his return the the lineup after missing 14 games with a shoulder injury and looked like he was in midseason form.

Mitch Marner was up to his usual tricks as well, picking up another three assists on the evening. Marner may want to credit the Leafs’ training staff for his first period assist on John Tavares’ second goal of the evening though. While defending in the Leafs zone, Marner realized his stick was broken and sprinted to the bench for a new one. The equipment staff had one ready to go, Marner grabbed it, picked up a pass from Zach Hyman and fed it over to Tavares for a brilliant goal. Officially the goal will read “Tavares from Marner and Hyman” on the scoresheet, but we all know who the assist really goes to…

Leafs veteran Patrick Marleau hit another milestone last night becoming the 25th player to score a goal against ALL NHL teams.

The Leafs themselves also hit a new milestone, or better put they shattered a nearly 50 year old record by rattling off their sixth consecutive home victory by a 2+ goal margin.

Check it out:

Suffice it to say, the boys in blue are looking pretty good on home ice this season. And hey… their 9-3-0 road record isn’t too shabby either.
