General manager Kyle Dubas has put ink to paper yet again. On Friday, the Toronto Maple Leafs signed restricted free-agent defenseman Travis Dermott to a one-year contract worth $847,125.

The contract is equal to what his qualifying offer was, which is a good value for the Maple Leafs. Dermott will need to prove himself this upcoming season seeing that he will have arbitration rights next offseason.

Game on!

The 23-year-old Dermott, who was selected by the Leafs in the second round of the 2015 NHL Draft, scored four goals and seven assists in 56 games last season. He added just one assist in the five games of the qualifying round against the Columbus Blue Jackets in the NHL’s Return to play plan.

Dubas has one more free agent to sign : winger prospect Joey Anderson who was acquired from the New Jersey Devils as a part of the return for Andreas Johnsson.
