Leafs to be tempted by Habs’ bold trade offer?

In Montreal, Jean-Charles Lajoie of TVA Sports is known to suggest bold moves for the Canadiens, and this time, he’s got the Toronto Maple Leafs involved as well.

On Tuesday night, Lavoie wondered if Habs general manager Marc Bergevin would make the gamble to offer forward Max Domi and defenseman Jeff Petry to the Maple Leafs in return for a package deal that would centre Kasperi Kapanen.

When talking about the Canadiens’ targets for a trade, Lajoie pointed out that Bergevin would like to deal with the Pittsburgh Penguins or Nashville Predators, but don’t expect their respective GMs to be interested in a player like Domi, who’s struggled this season.

However, Kyle Dubas, who appreciates advanced statistics could be tempted to accept the Habs’ offer. Here is how Lajoie explained it on the air of his show JiC, translated from French:

"Let's say the Leafs panic and seek reinforcement on defense and that Bergevin says ‘you take Domi and Jeff Petry’ and then Dubas will answer ‘I don't have a penny for a drink and you want me to take on 8.7 million?’”
Lajoie therefore added that Bergevin would be in a good position to demand Kapanen and say this to Dubas: “Make it work as you want. If you want to chat, he is the one I want.”

It remains to be seen if the Leafs will pull the trigger on this blockbuster suggested move…
