The Toronto Maple Leafs will regret loaning defenseman Rasmus Sandin to Team Sweden for the World Junior Championship after what occurred on Tuesday.

The 19-year-old, who was Toronto’s first-round selection in the 2018 NHL draft, was injured in the third period of the game against Slovakia. As Sweden led 5-1, Sandin appeared to take a slash to the wrist and headed straight to the dressing room in pain.

Check it out:

Sandin debuted with the Leafs this season, posting two assists in six games, while also recording two goals and 12 points in 18 games with the AHL’s Toronto Marlies.

When blue liner Tyson Barrie was sidelined, there was some uncertainty about whether the Maple Leafs would loan Sandin for the tournament. They did and now could regret it, seeing that Toronto is now without the services of Jake Muzzin, who is out week to week with a broken foot.

The Swedish team finally provided some update on his condition later on Tuesday. It was revealed that the x-rays show no fracture which is good news for Sandin - and the Maple Leafs!
