With unrestricted free agency looming in the summer of 2018, all eyes will be on John Tavares and the New York Islanders for the next 12 months. Much like the Steven Stamkos Countdown of 2015-16, teams will be watching and gauging the Tavares situation in Long Island in this upcoming season.

One pundit, Islanders legend and Hockey Hall of Famer Mike Bossy, recently proposed a trade between the Isles and the Montreal Canadiens that would have everlasting effects on both franchises. In a conversation on Montreal radio station (91.9 Sports) with Jean-Charles, Bossy proposed a deal in which the Isles would ship Tavares to the Habs in exchange for forward Alex Galchenyuk, defenseman Mikhail Sergachev, goaltender Charlie Lindgren and the Habs’ 2017 first round pick.

That’s a whopper of a deal. Tavares is a legitimate superstar and if he were to move to a market like Montreal, he may finally get the league-wide recognition that he sorely deserves. On the other hand, both Galchenyuk and Sergachev are high draft picks and could blossom into star players in their own right. What do you think? Who would win this (hypothetical) trade?
