Long time Wings player can't even keep this part of the Joe.

Oh come on now!

Is it a travesty, an injustice, a slight to a long-serving member of the Red Wings, the ugly results of the first down season in over two decades of winning seasons and an unwillingness to settle for anything but the best?

No. Not at all.

Goalie Jimmy Howard just wanted his trusty stall stool, which he has spent almost a decade suiting up on, as a souvenir from the soon to be retired Joe Louis Arena in Detroit.

According to several sources, Howard won’t be getting that stool.

Travesty!

Who cares about a stool when you’re talking about one of the most storied buildings in American sports history, let alone hockey? Stanley Cups have been won here, numbers lifted to the rafters that no Red Wing will ever wear again, a generation of players and fans alike have never seen a post-season without Detroit until this year. Who cares about a change room stool?

That stool is part of history too, and if that doesn’t mean anything to you, it surely means something to Howard. It’s literally supported him in the dressing room, for every home practice and game over the last eight years. I bet even his family can’t beat that claim!

And what are they going to do with it anyway, auction it off? Unlikely. Throw it out, probably. What a waste…

Howard can take comfort in that his tenure with the Red Wings will likely outlast that of his trusty stool. The 33-year-old will start in today’s matchup against original-six rival the Toronto Maple Leafs, looking to add a game to the 23 he has played this year. Howard has a 2.02 GGA and a 0.932 save-percentage this season.
