Lundqvist’s agent hints at what might be next for the legendary goalie!

It came to a sad end on Wednesday when the New York Rangers bought out legendary goalie Henrik Lundqvist, putting an end to his 15-year-old career with the Blue Shirts.

While many expected Lundqvist’s run to come to an end in New York City, it is tough to deal with the fact that it comes at the hands of a buy out. Rumours had been quite loud ever since the Rangers were ousted in the qualifying round - even before then when the crease got very crowded with Alexandar Georgiev and Igor Shesterkin. Rangers defenseman Libor Hajek had even recently revealed in an interview with a Czech news outlet that The King said goodbye to his teammates after the team was ousted from the postseason by the Carolina Hurricanes in the qualifying round.

“After the last match with Carolina, [Henrik Lundqvist] said goodbye, saying it was his last match. He said he didn’t know what would happen to him if the Rangers bought him out or went somewhere else.”

What is next for The King? This all seems quite uncertain now, especially with the goaltending market being quite packed this offseason. With a flooded goalie market that will have Marc-Andre Fleury, Matt Murray, and Darcy Kuemper on the block, it will be hard to trade Lundqvist and get interested parties, even if the man is a legend.

However, his agent Don Meehan reached out to Ken Campbell of the Hockey News hours following the buy out, and revealed that his client “will make a decision on whether or not he still wants to play for another NHL team in fairly short order.”

Some folks can’t imagine that it would be the end of his NHL career. One of many even suggesting that he plays backup to Frederik Andersen for the Maple Leafs in Toronto.

Would you be ready for this?

For the past weeks, Lundqvist has been skating with Frolunda in Sweden. However, when rumours starting surfaced that the veteran goalie might be skating and working out in its arena, Frolunda quickly issued a statement indicating their closed-door sessions are to protect their players as much as possible from the virus and that the team had no information on Lundqvist other than he is not a member of their roster or their team. He spent several seasons with Frolunda before joining the New York Rangers in 2005-06. He might pondering NHL retirement and considering
finishing his career with his old team.

We wanted so much more from his agent, but for now, that’s all we got.
