Lundqvist slams his team after 'embarrassing' loss

The Toronto Maple Leafs slammed the New York Rangers by a score of 8-5 Saturday night, and Henrik Lundqvist was not too pleased about it.

"First period was just embarrassing," Lundqvist said to a Sportsnet reporter. Of course, he`s referencing how his team found themselves down 5-2 after a single period. Lundqvist was pulled after the 5 goals, and after being replaced by backup Ondrej Pavelec, his team actually found themselves tied 5-5 after 2 periods. 

Unfortunately the game got away from them there, allowing the Leafs to score 3 unanswered goals before the final red light went on.

Lundqvist continued to say that this was "obviously not what you’re looking for in your second game. I need to be better. Just a period where they were just all over us. No structure really in our own end and I wasn’t able to come up with enough saves."

His comment about a lack of structure in his own end is a jab at his teammates who were disorganized all period long and forced him to have the stand on his head to keep them in it - something he did not manage to do.

Lundqvist is coming off a career-worst season, having posted a 2.74 goals-against-average and a .910 save percentage in 2016-17.

Is his status as elite goaltender finally coming to an end?
