Major injury to veteran goaltender could dramatically impact trade value.

Earlier this months comments from veteran goaltender Jaroslav Halak, currently of the New York Islanders, indicated that he felt the three goalie system on the Islanders left an odd man out, and furthermore indicated he felt he was that man.

Halak even went on to admit he had expressed his displeasure to management, and immediately the rumors of a potential trade involving Halak began circulating, many of them very credible, suggesting that this was a very likely scenario.

That potential trade may have taken a major hit, if not in terms of likelihood, than certainly in terms of it's value to other National Hockey League franchises after the revelation of yet another major injury to Halak.

According to a report from Arthur Staple of NewsDay, Halak now needs surgery to repair a sports hernia, an injury that will require roughly two months to properly recover from, something that could impact his offseason preparation. With that said there are a number of teams in desperate need of help in net, but other veteran options like a potential Marc-Andre Fleury trade may be far more appealing to teams looking to commit to a move.
