Two Key Players About to Leave the Hawks?

All eyes will be on the Vegas Golden Knights this summer. The NHL’s 31st franchise officially enters the league this offseason and general manager George McPhee will have his work cut out for him in assembling a roster from scratch.

When asked when he plans to start making transactions in advance of the June 21st Expansion Draft, McPhee replied, “I’m hoping that we can start doing that next week.” He added, “I’m hoping that we can start getting a few deals done because I think it’s going to be a lot to ask to do them all within the expansion window.”

Well, it appears some information has been leaked as Frank Seravalli is reporting the deal wouldn’t be 100% done, but the Blackhawks would allow Las Vegas Golden Knights to take defenseman Trevor van Riemsdyk in draft, on consideration that they also take Marcus Kruger in trade. Seravalli added that it is also possible it can be flipped: VGK takes Kruger in consideration for also getting TvR. Either way, those two names have been linked to Vegas.

Could it be the first major trade of the Golden Knights history? For Chicago, it would definitely make sense are they would clear up some cap space. They are projected at $4.5M above the current $73M ceiling. This type of deal would give them much more flexibility.
