Major update on the status of injured superstar Henrik Lundqvist.

The Rangers have had some abysmal luck when it comes to injuries and they were hit hard again on Wednesday night when star goaltender Henrik Lundqvist was injured by a teammate in a strange accident.

Lundqvist was injured when the blade of the stick belonging to Rangers' defenseman Marc Staal managed to find it's way through Henrik's helmet and resulted in some kind of eye poke. Despite staying in the game Lundqvist would now return to start the second period and was listed as day to day by the Rangers.

It's still unclear at this time how serious the injury to Lundqvist is at this time, but head coach Alain Vigneault did attempt to downplay any talk of a serious injury when he spoke to reporters.

“We don't feel it's anything too serious,” saids Vigneault.

However despite Vigneault's comments there are some signs that are a cause for concern, for one the Rangers have called up Magnus Hellberg from the American Hockey League indicating that Lundqvist's absence from Game 2 on Saturday is a realistic possibility. The Rangers also revealed that Lundqvist is seeing an eye doctor today, again something that would suggest there is a very real injury here.

For those of you who missed the incident last night we've included the video below.
