The Pittsburgh Penguins were handed a huge blow on Thursday morning, when it was confirmed that captain Sidney Crosby will miss a minimum of six weeks after undergoing surgery on a core muscle injury.

The star forward has five goals and 17 points in 17 games this season. Crosby has appeared in at least 75 games in each of the past six seasons.

The Penguins will need to step up during his absence and this is what teammate Evgeni Malkin intends to do. On Thursday, Geno made the following statement when asked about his teammate’s absence:

“I need to be fire,” he said with a laugh. “I will be fire.”

This is exactly what fans want to hear: Malkin wants to get going on a hot streak.

The Pens were without Malkin to kick off the year due to another injury and now their other star centre will be out for a significant amount of time…The team has had both Sid and Geno in the lineup for just six of their 18 games played this season.

Let’s see how hot Malkin will get!
