This one is going on the highlight reels for sure.

The Pittsburgh Penguins faced off against the New York Rangers on Sunday afternoon in what was really a must win game for the Penguins. The Penguins entered the game one point behind the Carolina Hurricanes after the Hurricanes secured a big win over the Dallas Stars on Sunday, although they had a game in hand which meant they could leapfrog back over the Hurricanes with a win over the Rangers.

The Penguins certainly looked like a team determined to make the 2019 Stanley Cup Playoffs on Sunday, putting up a whopping 6 goals on the Rangers who valiantly surged back at times during the game but could never really close the gap until it was already far too late. There was plenty of action though with a total of 11 goals in this one but perhaps none was more spectacular than the third period goal scored by Penguins star Evgeni Malkin.

Roughly midway through the third and final period of the game, with the Rangers still hot on the heels of the Penguins trailing by just 2 goals at that point, Malkin attempted to drive a dagger in the heart of the Rangers by scoring his second goal of the game, and the sixth for the Penguins on the evening, in truly eye popping fashion.

The Penguins were coming off a rush into the Rangers zone with Penguins forward Zachary Aston Reese controlling the play and he quickly dropped the puck back to Malkin. Malkin appeared to be covered at the time but took control of the puck and immediately performed a no look spin-o-rama style back hand to beat Rangers backup goaltender Alexandar Georgiev up high for his second of the night. It was truly an amazing goal to watch in real time made all that much better by the great call that followed it.

Although they did not know it at the time the goal would prove to be the dagger as it turned out to be the eventual game winner for the Penguins. In spite of the goal from Malkin giving the Penguins a 3 goal lead with just 10 minutes to go, the Rangers surged back to within just 1 before time expired.
