They made a wrong decision

Management's mistake

With the third line scoring equaled to that of a big, fat goose egg, many are putting the blame on Jimmy Hayes. Along with Hayes, his line mates Riley Nash and Matt Beleskey also don’t have any points this season.

Earlier today, the coaching staff had requested the services of Sean Kuraly and will be benching Matt Belesky, hoping that this (temporary) roster modification sends a clear message. However, it may not be the right logistical decision to make.

The 6-foot-5 forward Hayes hasn’t helped his team win a single game, netting zero goals and assists, a +/- differential of -7, and seven penalty minutes. This isn’t a proper way to help the organization accumulate victories, nor is it a way to guarantee playing time on the ice.

The coaching staff is sending a message, and that is a necessary evil. However, the means of sending the said message may not be the right one. Sitting Beleskey is not what will light a fire under than line. Sitting Jimmy Hayes would be the better way to go. If he keeps going this way, he may start seeing the press box more this season.

Maybe that's the message that needs to be sent.
