The Red Wings faced defeat for a 5th consecutive game yesterday as they lost to the Devils in New Jersey by a score of 5-1. They get set to play their second game in less than 24 hours tonight against the Carolina Hurricanes on home ice. The Wings seek to put an end to their second major losing streak this season.

Things seem to be going from bad to worse for Detroit. The Wings' injury reserve list is full of veterans and key players. Earlier this week, veterans Darren Helm, Luke Glendening, Patrik Nemeth and Justin Abdelkader came back from their injuries, still the situation isn't getting any better on the injury front. Mike Green was injured a few days ago.

As if the injury to Mike Green wasn't enough, Anthony Mantha is set to miss the match against the Hurricanes as he too is currently bothered by an injury. This comes as a huge blow for the Wings who heavy rely on Mantha's offensive contribution on the first offensive line. Zadina has 1 goal and 3 points in the NHL so far.

To cope with their recent injury woes, the Red Wings called 2018 6th overall pick, Filip Zadina back up from Grand Rapids. He is set to play his first game of the season and his 10th as a Wing as he slots in on the 2nd line alongside Valtteri Filppula and Andreas Athanasiou.

Robby Fabbri will be promoted to the 1st line as he replaces Mantha to the right of Dylan Larkin and Tyler Bertuzzi. Christoffer Ehn will be replaced at center on the 4th line by Luke Glendening.

On defense, Patrik Nemeth will be back on the first pair alongside Filip Hronek in his second game back from injury. Dylan McIlrath and Dennis Cholowski will form a new 3rd defensive pairing.

Jimmy Howard will start in front of Detroit's net as Jonathan Bernier will rest after allowing 5 goals yesterday.

Here is the Red Wings' projected lineup for tonight's game according to NHL.com correspondent Dave Hogg:

Forwards:

Tyler Bertuzzi - Dylan Larkin - Robby Fabbri

Filip Zadina - Valtteri Filppula - Andreas Athanasiou

Brendan Perlini - Frans Nielsen - Taro Hirose

Darren Helm - Luke Glendening - Adam Erne

Defensemen:

Patrik Nemeth - Filip Hronek

Madison Bowey - Jonathan Ericsson

Dylan McIlrath - Dennis Cholowski

Goaltenders:

Jimmy Howard

Jonathan Bernier

Justin Abdelkader and Alex Biega are set to be healthy scratches this evening. Danny DeKeyser, Trevor Daley, Mike Green and Anthony Mantha are all out with injuries.

The Hurricanes are coming off a 4-2 victory at home against the Florida Panthers. The last time the Red Wings and the Canes met, Carolina got the win by a score of 7-3. Will the Red Wings snap their losing streak and get revenge tonight?

Great Hockey ahead!
