Maple Leaf named rookie of the month and it's NOT Auston Matthews.

If someone told you that the rookie of the month was a member of the Toronto Maple Leafs you would likely assume that man to be Auston Matthews, and no one would blame you for that assumption. However you would have been wrong.

For the first time in twenty years a Maple Leafs skater has been named the National Hockey League's rookie of the month, and this time it's none other than forward William Nylander, who like Matthews has been on a tear this season.

Nylander has recorded four goals and 7 assists for a total of 11 points in just 9 games, numbers that are frankly ridiculous for a player on a team that has struggled out of the gate. Like Matthews he is a former first round pick, and he currently leads all NHL rookies in points, as well as assists. 

Needless to say he is currently among the favorites to walk away with the Calder this season.
