Maple Leafs assign former first round pick to the AHL

The Toronto Maple Leafs have assigned forward Frederik Gauthier to the Toronto Marlies (AHL), the team announced on Tuesday. He hasn't played a game with the Leafs so far this season.

Gauthier, 22, was drafted 21st overall by the Maple Leafs in 2013. He played 28 games in the NHL so far, registering four points. At the AHL level, the 6'5", 232 pounds forward registered 37 points in 125 games played (regular season and playoffs included).

This season, he has two points in eight games with the Marlies.
