Maple Leafs cut 22 players before the start of preseason.

Leafs make a big number of cuts.

The Toronto Maple Leafs have significantly trimmed their current roster prior to the start of preseason action in the National Hockey League. 

According to a report from The Athletic's Scott Wheeler, the Maple Leafs have cut a whopping 22 players from their training camp roster on Sunday. Of those 22 players 7 of them will be sent back to the Canadian Hockey League, while the remaining 15 will be assigned to the Toronto Marlies. Upon arrival those players will skate with the Maple Leafs Player Development Staff ahead of the Marlies' 2019 training camp, that camo is sent to open on the 24th of September.

First the 7 players who have been sent back to the Canadian Hockey League.

Mikhail Abramov

Toronto's 4th round pick (115th overall) at the 2019 NHL Entry Draft, the 18 year old center will head back to the Victoriaville Tigres of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.

Semyon Der-Arguchintsev

Toronto's 3rd round pick (76th overall) at the 2018NHL Entry Draft. The 19 year old center is going back to the Ontario Hockey League where he is a member of the Peterborough Petes.

Filip Kral

Kral is a 19 year old defenseman for the Spokane Chiefs of the Western Hockey League, and that is where the undrafted prospect will return.

Kalle Loponen

Toronto's 7th round pick (204th overall) at the 2019 draft, the Finnish native has spent his entire career playing in Europe. Now however it appears as though he will continue to develop with the Spokane Chiefs.

Marc-Antoine Pepin

The 18 year old defenseman is an undrafted prospect our of the QMJHL where he plays with the Shawinigan Cataractes. He is headed back to his team.

Nick Robertson

Toronto's 2nd round pick (53rd overall) and the 2019 NHL Entry Draft. Robertson will return to the Peterborough Petes of the Ontario Hockey League, where he has spent the past 2 seasons.

Riley Stotts

Toronto's 3rd round pick (83rd overall) at the 2018 draft, the 19 year old will return to the Calgary Hitmen of the Western Hockey League.
