The Toronto Maple Leafs have just been hit with some pretty heavy injury news and unsurprisingly it is going to have a significant impact on the team moving forward.

Earlier this morning we reported on the fact that Toronto Maple Leafs forward Ilya Mikheyev would be out of action for several months as a result of the injuries he suffered on Friday night when he was severely cut by the skate of an opposing player. The Maple Leafs have since confirmed that Mikheyev will be re-evaluated in 3 months time, a timeframe that could have him missing the rest of the 2019 - 2020 National Hockey League regular season and potentially even the playoffs, while also sharing some rather gruesome details about the nature of his injuries. So now we know that the young forward will be out for a considerable length of time and on Saturday the Leafs announced that another player was also headed to injured reserve.

According to an official announcement from the Toronto Maple Leafs department of public relations, both the aforementioned Ilya Mikheyev and forward Trevor Moore have been placed on injured reserve today. The move frees up significant salary space for the Maple Leafs at this point in the season and it also obviously opens up a pair of roster spots now that they have two guys out for the foreseeable future. In the case of Moore it seems as though his return on the 21st of this month may have been somewhat premature as the forward is now out "indefinitely" as a result of a concussion. It is still unclear if Moore continues to deal with the long term impacts of a concussion suffered well over a month ago now, or if some incident during that game against the Detroit Red Wings on the 21st may have aggravated the situation.

Either way both men are out of the lineup for the time being and as a result the Maple Leafs have now made a pair of call ups from the American Hockey League. Again, according to an official announcement it will be both forward Kenny Agostino and defenseman Timothy Liljegren who will step in to fill the voids left on the roster by Moore and Mikheyev as a result of their injuries. Agostino has yet to play in a single NHL game as a member of the Maple Leafs thus far so some fans are excited at the prospect of seeing what he can do with the Maple Leafs talented group of forwards.
