The Toronto Maple Leafs have just signed defenseman Justin Holl to a three-year, $6 million contract extension.

The deal will carry an average annual value of $2 million through the 2022-23 season, meaning he is now signed for a longer term than any other defenseman on the Maple Leafs current roster. Morgan Rielly is signed through the 2021-22 season, but every other player on the team’s blueline is set to hit free agency in July - Travis Dermott and Teemu Kivihalme will be restricted free agents.

Speculations are getting louder that Toronto might have to part with some pending free agents on the back end due to their restricted cap space.

The 27-year-old blue liner has posted one goal and 11 points in a career-high 28 games this season with the Leafs, while averaging 16:27 of ice time per game.

Last season, he managed to collect just one assist in 11 games, averaging just 12:29 of ice time.

Now they have resigned Holl, the Maple Leafs now have $66.8 million committed to 10 players for next season and scheduled to have $14.6 million in cap space to fill the remaining 13 roster spots, according to Cap Friendly.
