The Stanley Cup Playoffs could still be cancelled at any moment due to an outbreak of COVID-19 in either of its isolated bubbles in the hub cities of Edmonton and Toronto, but it finally seems like we are actually going to be seeing meaningful games take place in August of all things. On July 13th all 24 of the teams participating in the upcoming Stanley Cup Qualifying round will enter training camp, although many teams have already begun preparations with players working out in Phase 2 of the league's return to play protocols.
Over the next 24 we will begin to have a much clearer picture of the expanded rosters teams will be bringing into training camp and the playoffs, something that is still unclear given that we have seen numerous NHL players willingly opt out of the competition over the last few days. It was also reported over the weekend that no players from the Maple Leafs roster were expected to opt out of the playoffs and on Sunday the Maple Leafs revealed their full training camp roster, effectively confirming those rumors.
The Maple Leafs will be bringing a total of 34 players into training camp which breaks down to 18 forwards, 12 defensemen and 4 goaltenders. Of course not all of these players will see ice time during the upcoming playoffs, but they nonetheless have agreed to participate in the NHL's Phase 3 and Phase 4 protocols.
