The Toronto Maple Leafs have added a new defenseman to their lineup.

According to a report from the Leafs official website, the Leafs have come to terms on a 1 year deal with veteran defenseman Zach Bogosian. The 30 year old blue liner will earn $1 million on this new deal, and this continues a trend from the Leafs of signing, gritty and experienced players and doing so at a very reasonable cost.

Maple Leafs general manager Kyle Dubas indicated that he was looking to make his team more difficult to play against after another disappointing run in the playoffs, and the moves he has made thus far in the offseason appear to backup those claims.

Bogosian is of course coming off a high point in his career, capturing a Stanley Cup Championship as a member of the Tampa Bay Lightning. He played in just 8 regular season games for the Lightning, picking up two assists, and prior to the trade that sent him to Tampa Bay he had been limited to just 19 games with the Buffalo Sabres in which he had 1 goal and 4 assists.

Over his career, a career that began with the Atlanta Thrashers, saw him become a member of the Winnipeg Jets, led him to a long tenure with the Buffalo Sabres, and saw him land on the Lightning for this most recent cup run. Bogosian appeared in 644 games and recorded 53 goals and 143 assists for 196 career NHL points. He is best known for his physical brand of play and there's little doubt in my mind that the motivation for Kyle Dubas to bring him into this Leafs roster was both for his championship experience and the extra edge that he can bring to the Maple Leafs locker room.
