The Las Vegas Golden Knights currently sit in 4th place in the National Hockey League's Pacific Division after some unexpectedly strong starts for the Edmonton Oilers, Anaheim Ducks, and Vancouver Canucks to start the 2019 - 2020 National Hockey League regular season, and unfortunately it does not sound like things are about to get any easier from here on out.

The Golden Knights are set to face off against the Winnipeg Jets on Sunday night, a team that has had some struggles to start the regular season after seeing their defense decimated during the offseason, and although the Golden Knights are the favorites heading into tonight's contest they will now face a significant disadvantage. According to a report from Las Vegas Golden Knights insider Jesse Granger of The Athletic, the Golden Knights will be without veteran goaltender Marc Andre Fleury this evening due to illness. Granger reports that Fleury is currently out with the flu and his information comes directly from Golden Knights head coach Gerard Gallant so there is no doubting the voracity of this report.

The good news here is that Fleury is not expected to miss significant time, in fact Gallant described the situation as one where there is "no concern he could miss significant time" but there is some bad news as well. With Fleury out the Golden Knights will turn to backup goaltender Malcolm Subban for just the second time this season, and there may be a good reason why Fleury has taken on such a heavy workload to start this regular season. Fleury has appeared in 13 of the Golden Knights 14 games this season and that may be due to the fact that Subban has not looked strong between the pipes as of late.

Subban struggled down the stretch last season and in his one appearance for the Golden Knights this season he was simply abysmal. Subban lasted just 20 minutes while posting a horrific 6.00 goals against average and a very poor .857 save percentage to go along with it. It seems fair to suggest that Gerard Gallant does not exactly have a great deal of confidence in his backup goaltender, although Subban will get a chance to prove his doubters wrong once again this evening when the Golden Knights welcome the Jets to Las Vegas.
