Habs' general manager Marc Bergevin was extremely proud to announce he was able to sign 29-year-old defenseman Karl Alzner, back on July 1st. He was bragging about how Alzner is a top-tier defensive d-man, and how he will help the team in the long run.

Alzner signed a five-year, $23,125 million dollars contract, which means he is going to earn $4,625 million per year until 2022.

However, after 20 games this year, some people are starting to wonder if having Alzner on the team is as good as Bergevin said a few months ago. Former NHL scout Grant McCagg, who now works for recrutes.ca, believes Bergevin made a mistake when he signed the former Washington Capital:

Alzner was clearly underperforming at the start of the season (just like almost every player who wore a Canadiens jersey, to be fair), but it seems like he got a better over the last few games. He amassed four assists in 20 games this year.

Do you think Bergevin made a mistake when he signed him?
