Justin Williams was of course going to do the honourable thing and shake hands with the winning Boston Bruins, who swept the Carolina Hurricanes out of the Eastern Conference final, winning 4-0 to reach their third Stanley Cup Final in nine years.

He stood first in line in front of his teammates to shake hands with the Prince of Wales champions and took the time with the first few players, Zdeno Chara, Patrice Bergeron and David Krejci…

And then he got to Brad Marchand…

While he shared some hugs and a few words with the previous three, he barely took the time to look at Marchand as both men swallowed their pride to shake hands in an awkward moment.

Williams went to chat and hug it out with other Bruins players like David Pastrnak and David Backes.

As we know, Marchand managed to get under Williams’ skin during the series, when the Canes’ captain was grabbing seen the strap of Marchand’s helmet and ripping it open.

Williams was caught red-handed by the referees, who did not see Marchand catching his rival high with his stick, knocking him down. The Bruins pest pointed towards the penalty box and mocked Williams' captaincy as he skated away.

We did not expected them to hug it out after the Hurricanes’ elimination, but check out what the handshake looked like:
