Prior to his first NHL all-star game, Marchand had a hearing with Stéphane Quintal, following his collision with Niklas Kronwall which got him a $10,000 fine. While Marchand proved to be a prolific goal scorer last year and more recently during the World Cup of Hockey, he is still considered as a "dirty player" around the league.

So, what does Marchand think of the internal dynamic at play?

“It’s a little Jekyll and Hyde effect, I guess,” he said on Saturday,. “You can be good for 81 games of the year, and it takes a two-second play — and that’s the one everyone remembers."

Marchand was suspended or fined 6 times in his career. But does he feel the need to change?

“One hundred percent, the play last week [on Kronwall] is something that can be avoided and again, it’s just about being smarter in a situation like that. And again, it is something I’m going to continue to work on.” said Marchand. “I can’t change the way people view me, or the way they think. I’m not interested in doing that. I just want to play the game,” he said. “I still don’t think I’ll ever be liked."
