Marchessault apologizes to Canucks fans after going on crazy online rant

In case you missed it last night, the Vancouver Canucks managed to even up their second round playoff series against the Vegas Golden Knights with a convincing 5-2 victory in Game 2. Young superstar in the making Elias Pettersson led the way for the Canucks in Game 2, scoring a goal and adding two points. The kid is legit and is now 2nd in playoff scoring behind only Hart Trophy nominee Nathan MacKinnon.

Not bad. Not bad at all.

So, while all is fine and dandy in Canucks land, things aren't so rosy if you're a Golden Knights fans. Things are even worse if you're Vegas forward Jonathan Marchessault evidently. The fiery Vegas forward absolutely WENT OFF on Canucks fans on Twitter last night, replying to trolls who were chirping him in the comment section of a post he had put up earlier in the day. And when I say he went off... I'm not kidding. Marchessault let the F bombs fly and personally called out people to the point where he had his Twitter account suspended for violating their terms of service.

I mean... just check out some of these comments:

Whoa... you okay there, Jonny Boy? Did someone hit a nerve? These comments are wildly inappropriate and, frankly, I'd expect a professional athlete to be better at dealing with online trolls. Ignore them and move on, Jonathan. That's the only way to deal with stuff like this.

In any case, Marchessault has apologized for his comments last night, calling them "childish".

Check it out:

"I was frustrated from the game obviously, but also I get sensitive when people comment on family pictures. It got the best of me, but there's no excuse. I sincerely apologize."

You know what? Fair enough. You just lost a big game and you have a bunch of keyboard warriors trying to chirp you online. It hurts a nerve and you want to tell them all to F off. I get it. But, you're a professional athlete and you can't allow yourself to get pulled down into the mud with these types of trolls.

In any case, as mentioned earlier Marchessault had his Twitter account suspended as a result of his tirade. It's unclear how long he's been placed in Twitter jail for, but it's pretty common for the company to issue a 24 hour suspension in first offence cases like these. Hopefully that provides Marchessault with enough time to cool off and compose himself because, frankly, Vegas needs this guy's focus on the ice.

He has one goal through two games against the Canucks and went -2 in last night's 5-2 loss. The oddsmakers still favour the Knights in this series, but the team will need Marchessault firing on all cylinders if they're going to move on to the Western Conference Final.
